Job summary

VIA Rail in Vancouver, BC seeks a Maintenance Centre operator to ensure the safe movement of locomotives and train consists. The role is permanent, full-time, 40 hours weekly with a variable schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

You will perform general locomotive cleaning, operate locomotives within safety rules, and support maintenance operations. Minimum education is a high school diploma; valid driver's license (Class 3 an asset); must be able to work outdoors in

Qualifications

High school diploma required.
Valid driver’s licence (Class 3 is an asset).
Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Knowledge of CROR (Canadian Railway Operating Rules) and experience in transportation, mechanical work, or the railway industry (asset)

Responsibilities

Ensure the safe movement of locomotives and train consists within and around the Maintenance Centre.
Operate and position locomotives in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
Perform general cleaning of locomotives and work areas as required.
Carry out other related duties to support maintenance operations
