Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking a Load Research Analyst 2 to join their team and advance load forecasting, data analysis and reporting capabilities. The role emphasizes SAS and SQL proficiency, data modelling and cross-functional collaboration across service areas.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or Applied Mathematics or equivalent experience.
• Four years of experience as Load Research Analyst 1 or similar data gathering, research or analytical role.
• Two years of SAS experience and four years of SQL experience.
• Experience building reports and dashboards with visualization tools is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties of Load Research Analyst 1 and provide guidance to junior staff.
• Provide technical advice on SAS programming, data mining and statistical modeling.
• Transfer forecasts to the Distribution Load Shape Report Model weekly and maintain related code and data.
• Maintain data quality and integrity in SQL databases and on-line applications.
• Lead cross-functional analytics projects addressing business needs and present results to clients.
• Participate in team discussions contributing data science expertise to directions and methods.
• Support senior data scientists with regular load research reporting and new projects.
• Work across customer service, rates, demand side management and programs.

• The candidate will be responsible for performing the same duties as the Load Research Analyst 1 job.


• The candidate will be responsible for providing lower level staff with technical advice and guidance related to Statistical Analytical System (SAS) computer software programming, data mining and statistical modelling.


• The candidate will be responsible for transferring Transmission Account substation and feeder load forecasts to the Distribution Load Shape Report Model weekly and maintaining the programming, model, process and data necessary for the data transfer.


• The candidate will be responsible for providing data maintenance support for on-line web applications, including uploading data into a SQL database and maintaining data quality and integrity.


• The candidate will be responsible for occasionally leading analytical cross-functional research projects that address particular business needs presented by client groups, including eliciting specific requirements from clients, mining useful data for analytics, performing the analysis, consolidating findings, delivering results to clients and incorporating feedback into the analysis.


• The candidate will be responsible for participating in team analytical discussions with senior team members and contributing knowledge and experience in specific areas of expertise to inform decisions on the direction, methodologies and efforts of the group.


• The candidate will be responsible for performing duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.


• The candidate will work across a variety of business areas, including customer service, rates, demand side management, and programs, among others.


• The candidate will be responsible for supporting senior data scientists with regular load research reporting and the execution of new projects.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must hold a university degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or have equivalent experience, training, and education, along with four (4) years of experience as a Load Research Analyst 1 or in a similar data gathering, research, or analytical support role involving economic studies, load research, and forecasting, including two (2) years of experience working with Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and four (4) years of experience working with SQL.


• The candidate must complete in-house training in Electrical Utility Fundamentals or enroll in the in-house training within six (6) months of starting the job.


• The candidate must have strong communication and project management skills to effectively manage different client projects.


• The candidate should have experience building reports and dashboards using visualization tools such as SASVA or PowerBI, which is considered an asset.


• Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in SAS, but applicants who can demonstrate equivalent proficiency using Python, R, or similar tools will be considered.
