Job summary

Toronto Hydro is seeking an Operations Analyst to support business operations with data gathering, analysis, and reporting. You will work on projects, manage data, and provide recommendations to improve departmental performance.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement; onsite Tue–Thu with remote work two days weekly. A relevant degree and analytics experience are required, with familiarity in utility operations and SAP a plus.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 1+ year of experience in business analytics or data management (co-op included).
  • Knowledge of and experience in utility operations is an asset.
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Project, Access and Word.
  • Able to extract, query and analyze large data sets; programming languages (R, Python, C/C++, VBA) are assets.
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Alteryx and/or SAP is an asset.
  • Experience with machine learning and neural networks is an asset.
  • Awareness of project management processes and methodologies.
  • Strong business and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory obligations in electric utilities.

  • Assists in defining project scope and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Supports management and technology systems incl. enterprise systems (SAP).
  • Evaluates current and future states; drives data‑driven operations.
  • Acts as SME for departmental initiatives and industry developments.
  • Complies with safety standards and promotes safety culture.

Job description

Expected Salary Range: $65941 - $82426 Annually

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position.

The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

The Operations Analyst is responsible for the effective business operations associated with the department. Responsibilities include; data gathering, data analysis, conducting research and preparing reports, supporting department projects and programs and providing recommendations against findings to support departmental performance objectives. The role also provides support to leaders in the day‑to‑day operations of work programs through the administration of invoicing, purchase requisitions/orders, data administration, and general project management duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interacts with stakeholders to identify, capture and analyze business requirements
  • Supports departmental activities to draw insights from relevant business unit data sets and make recommendations for action
  • Conducts analysis involving large data sets and multiple variables and presents effectively through the preparation of technical or business reports and studies, process maps, graphs, charts or tables
  • Assists in the coordination, delivery and execution of projects
  • Maintains and further develops databases or decision support tools and systems
  • Suggests and implements process and procedure enhancements to support the overall efficiency of the department
  • Assists in defining project scope, drafting business cases, conducting feasibility studies and completing cost benefit analysis
  • Provides support to management and technology systems including enterprise systems (i.e., SAP), data management and reporting
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations on the current and future state and is a strong team player with demonstrated success in driving data‑driven operations
  • Acts as departmental subject matter expert for departmental, divisional and/or corporate initiatives
  • Stays current with industry developments and practices, specifically those in investment planning and information technology areas
  • Works in accordance with safety performance standards and promotes a safety culture
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, or related discipline
  • 1 or more year of experience in business analytics or data management (co‑op included)
  • Knowledge of and experience in utility operations is an asset
  • Fully proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including advanced working knowledge in MS Excel, MS Project, MS Access and MS Word
  • Proficient in data management practices and capable of extracting, querying, and analyzing large data sets; intermediate knowledge of programming languages (e.g., R, Python, C/C++, VBA) to support data analytics is an asset
  • Knowledge of Tableau, Alteryx and/or SAP is an asset
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, machine learning and neural network algorithms in practical applications is an asset
  • Awareness of project management processes, principles and methodologies
  • Business and strategic thinking acumen
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory obligations related to the electric utility industry
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and business solution development skills, including the proven ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and decision‑making skills

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
