Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking a Financial Analyst 3 for a temporary, full-time role based at Edmonds 14. The analyst will lead complex financial evaluations, develop forecasts, and present solutions to senior management, while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

The position requires a CPA designation, 5 years in related roles (2 as Financial Analyst 2), and advanced skills in Excel, SAP, and Power BI for data analysis and reporting.

Qualifications

• CPA designation required.
• Minimum five years in progressively responsible financial roles, including two years as Financial Analyst 2 or equivalent.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power Query, Power Pivot, SAP BW AFO, SAP ECC, Power BI or similar.
• Strong oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

• The candidate will be responsible for conducting and/or leading complex and/or major financial evaluations, studies and forecasts with significant and long term impacts and/or political sensitivities involving new business activities, emerging financial and strategic issues etc.; analyzing and assessing business and financial risks, opportunities and requirements; developing and presenting recommendations; and developing related financial and/or business solutions or program/project proposals, budgets, business cases, and/or proposed feasibility studies and/or pilots for assigned studies and projects.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing and presenting financial and business solutions to senior management, working groups or committees and acting as an expert advocate for those solutions; explaining recommendations and guiding clients to adopt the most prudent and efficient financial and business solution(s); analyzing and reviewing client submissions for accuracy, completeness and compliance with Business Group and corporate policies and procedures; and acting as a subject matter expert and/or primary work contact to BC Hydro’s external auditors.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing, evaluating, implementing and testing complex and/or major new or revised financial policies, procedures, processes and systems and initiating continuous improvement to business processes and systems.
• The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and providing project leadership throughout the development and implementation phases of approved projects to assigned project staff and/or consultants; intervening and following up to correct implementation problems; monitoring, controlling and expediting project timing and targets; and reviewing and approving contractor and other project invoices prior to managerial sign off.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing and applying advanced evaluation, statistical and financial analytical processes, methodologies, models and tools for own and other financial studies undertaken by lower level Financial Analysts; applying statistical models; analyzing, developing, preparing or evaluating financial forecasts, summary conclusions, reasons and explanations for differences between forecasted and actual results; preparing recommendations and supporting data, tables etc.; and developing and implementing methods and techniques to improve forecasting and financial evaluations and analyses.
• The candidate will perform some or all of the same duties as the Financial Analyst 1 & 2, provide technical direction, advice, and/or training to management, lower-level financial accounting employees, and project team members, provide work leadership over assigned staff as required, and provide training and support to non-financial managers on the financial system as required.
• The candidate will be responsible for performing duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must hold a professional accounting designation (CPA).
• The candidate must have five (5) years of experience in progressively more responsible financial and business accounting roles, including two (2) years as a Financial Analyst 2 or in an equivalent role.
• The candidate should have advanced knowledge and proficiency in using Excel, Power Query, Power Pivot, SAP BW AFO, SAP ECC transactions, Power BI or similar for data analysis and reporting.
• The candidate should have excellent oral, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills, along with advanced financial evaluation and analysis experience.
• The candidate should demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a tight time frame.
• The candidate should have BC Hydro capital and asset related experience.
• The candidate should demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to a changing environment, manage changes and come up with ideas for analysis.

Work conditions

• The candidate will work in a standard BC Hydro office environment and travel occasionally to attend meetings.
• The candidate will be required to work occasional overtime when workload increases during periods such as quarter-end and the year-end reporting cycle.
