Job summary

The Live Well Kinesiologist at YMCA Halifax oversees the Live Well service portfolio, guiding program development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement to help individuals build confidence, increase physical activity and improve overall health.

Reporting to the Vice President of Health, Fitness & Aquatics, you will coordinate programs such as Move Well and Active for Life, assess participants, recruit volunteers and promote services while modeling YMCA standards and commitments

Qualifications

• University or college program in kinesiology or related field (asset).
• YMCA certification and/or Can-Fit Pro registration in Personal Training/Group Fitness (asset).
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with clients.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends/evenings/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight and coordination of the Live Well service portfolio, including Move Well and Active for Life.
• Develop and maintain participant pathways within Live Well services.
• Review program effectiveness and identify opportunities to expand or modify programs.
• Conduct participant intake, health history screening and fitness assessments.
• Recruit onboarding and orientation of Live Well volunteers and staff.
• Support outreach and promotion of Live Well services to members and community.
• Model YMCA The Y Way Standards in daily interactions and service delivery.

Position Status: Fixed-Term Part-Time Contract (with the potential forconsistent full-time hours and transition to a Full-Time Contract based onoperational needs during the contract term)
Compensation: $27.54 per hour

About the role:

Reporting to the Vice President of Health, Fitness & Aquatics,the Live Well Kinesiologist provides leadership and oversight for the YMCA'sLive Well services, supporting the development, implementation, evaluation andcontinuous improvement of programs designed to help individuals buildconfidence, increase physical activity and improve their overall health andwell-being.

In this role, you will:

• Provideoversight and coordination of the YMCA's Live Well service portfolio,including programs such as Move Well, Active for Life and other health,fitness and wellness initiatives. Ensuring the programs align with theYMCA strategic priorities.
• Developand maintain participant pathways within Live Well services, supportingindividuals in moving from assessment to programming, into appropriateongoing YMCA programs and independent physical activity.
• Reviewprogram effectiveness, participation, and outcomes, and Identifyopportunities to expand or modify programs based on participant needs.
• Conductparticipant intake, health history screening and appropriate fitnessassessments to understand individual needs, establish goals, identifyexercise considerations and determine appropriate Live Well programpathways.
• Recruitment,onboarding and orientation of live well volunteers and program staff asrequired.
• Supportoutreach and promotion of Live Well services to YMCA members and thebroader community.
• Activelymodels YMCA “The Y Way Standards” by:
• Consistentlyacknowledge members who are waiting for service, ask questions todetermine what they need and provide support however they can.
• Proactivelyobserving members throughout the facility and offering help to those whomay appear confused, uncomfortable, or in need of support.
• Followingthe 5/10 Rule: when supervising program spaces or circulating throughoutthe centre, staff acknowledge all members within 10 feet with eye contactand a nod or smile, and within 5 feet with a verbal greeting (e.g.,“Hello,” “Good morning,” or “Good afternoon”).
• Maintaincleanliness in the facility. Following a clean culture approach, supportfacilities staff in cleaning. Do regular audits of spaces and ensureareas are member ready.
• Ensuringprogram areas are well maintained, including returning unused equipmentto its proper location and leaving spaces clean and orderly.
• Ensureequipment is safe and in good working order and proper protocols arefollowed when equipment is down.

Education and skills qualifications:

• Completionof a University or College program, majoring in Kinesiology, PhysicalEducation Recreation Leadership or a related field considered an asset.
• YMCAcertification and/or Can-Fit Pro registration in Personal training/GroupFitness
• Stronginterpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and ability to establishrapport with clients.
• Strongorganizational skills, self-motivated, good time management & detailoriented
• Flexibilityto work irregular hours required, including weekends, evenings andholidays etc.
• Intermediateproficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
