Job summary

The John W. Lindsay YMCA in Halifax is seeking a part-time Wellness Coach to supervise the fitness centre, engage with members, and deliver supportive guidance toward fitness goals. Responsibilities

  • Provide tours and orientations for members interested in weight room and cardio centre.
  • Lead weekly Youth Orientations as required.
  • Promote YMCA programming to meet members’ health and wellbeing needs.
  • Build strong relationships with members, visitors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Supervise the weight room floor and provide coaching and feedback as needed.
  • Ensure safe, clean spaces and uphold YMCA etiquette and policies.
  • Deliver strong customer service and assist members who need support.
  • Lead YThrive intakes and sessions (if certified) and maintain records.

About the Role

We are growing, and demand for our weight room and cardiocentre is high. To support our members, we are expanding our front-line team tosupervise the fitness centre and assist individuals in achieving their fitnessgoals.

Reporting to the Personal Fitness Coordinator, this rolefocuses on relationship building at both the individual and community level. Asa Wellness Coach, you play a vital role in providing direct support to memberswithin our fitness facility.

Wellness Coaches act as YMCA Ambassadors by delivering outstanding customer service, maintaining clean, organized, and safe fitnessspaces, and serving as a motivating presence to help members progress towardtheir goals.

This position also supports the Health, Fitness, andRecreation department by providing tours, orientations, teaching fitnessclasses (if certified), assisting with program setup and takedown, andsupporting YThrive programming (if certified).

Key Responsibilities
  • Providetours and orientations for members interested in the weight room andcardio centre, including instruction on safe equipment use and answeringquestions within scope
  • Deliverweekly Youth Orientations as required
  • Understandand promote YMCA programming that best meets members’ needs to enhancetheir health and wellbeing
  • Establishstrong, supportive relationships with members, visitors, staff, andvolunteers
  • Supervisethe weight room floor and provide coaching, corrective feedback, andsupport as needed
  • Ensureall participants follow YMCA etiquette and age-related policies
  • Maintainclean and tidy spaces throughout the facility
  • Ensureequipment and facilities are in good repair and report issues promptly
  • UpholdYMCA policies, procedures, and safe working protocols, including accuratereport completion
  • Deliverstrong customer service by greeting members within 5 feet andacknowledging within 10 feet
  • Proactivelyassist members who require support
  • Identifyopportunities to maximize member engagement and satisfaction
  • LeadYThrive intakes and sessions (if certified), maintaining accurate records
  • Ensureeffective communication, including timely responses to inquiries andcollaboration across departments
  • Supportpromotions, events, and overall program delivery
Education and Skills Qualifications

Required:

  • CurrentIntermediate Workplace First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  • Stronginterest in health, fitness, and supporting others
  • Demonstratedability to build relationships and provide excellent customer service
  • Strongorganizational and time management skills with initiative
  • Willingnessto learn and obtain YMCA program certifications

  • Self-motivatedwith strong attention to detail
  • Intermediateproficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Availabilityto work early mornings (5:30am–8:30am), evenings (after 4:30pm), andweekends
Preferred (Assets):
  • 1–2years of experience in the fitness industry or movement instruction
  • Kinesiologydegree or related education
  • PersonalTraining certification (YMCA, Nova Scotia Fitness Association, canfitpro,CSEP, or equivalent)
  • Bilingualor multilingual abilities
