Perlin Bal Figol LLP is a full-service law firm offering effective and practical legal solutions. We are seeking a Litigation Associate to join our litigation practice group, working with a team of three lawyers, one paralegal and support staff.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of civil and/or commercial litigation experience, can independently handle files, and holds good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Salary range is CAD 125,000 to CAD 160,000 for 3–5 years.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of civil and/or commercial litigation experience.
• Experience managing litigation matters and files.
• Experience arguing contested motions and applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong advocacy and negotiation skills.
• Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) and ethical professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Manage a diverse caseload from inception to resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, factums, and other documents.
• Attend discoveries, cross-examinations, mediations, motions, conferences, hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
• Develop litigation strategies and provide legal opinions.
• Correspond with opposing counsel and negotiate where appropriate.
• Advise and communicate with clients throughout the process; supervise support staff.

We are seeking a Litigation Associate to join our litigation practice group. You will be working with a team of three lawyers, one paralegal and support staff and students.

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience working on civil and/or commercial litigation matters and will be capable of independently handling files. Responsibilities include:

• Managing a diverse caseload of litigation matters from inception through to resolution;
• Drafting pleadings, motion/application materials, factums, and other documents;
• Attending discoveries, cross-examinations, mediations, motions, case conferences, hearings, trials, and appeals;
• Conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda;
• Developing litigation strategies and providing legal opinions;
• Corresponding and negotiating with opposing counsel;
• Advising and communicating with clients throughout the litigation process;
• Supervising and collaborating with support staff on file management and other related tasks.

The successful candidate will have:

• 3-5 years of experience in civil and/or commercial litigation;
• Experience managing litigation matters;
• Experience arguing contested motions and applications;
• Strong research, advocacy and negotiation skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to independently carry a full caseload;
• Team-oriented approach;
• High degree of personal ethics, integrity, and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard confidential information;
• Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.

Salary Range: $125,000 to $160,000 for 3-5 years [Commensurate with experience - candidates with more experience will be considered].

Candidates can expect a high pressure and busy environment given the nature of the work and number of files. The candidate will be part of a team, and expected to work individually.
