Job summary

Transgate Group in Vaughan, Canada is seeking a Commercial Litigation Lawyer to join a growing team handling a diverse commercial dispute caseload. You will manage matters from intake to trial including mortgage enforcement and debt recovery, advising clients with a focus on strategic risk and business outcomes.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of litigation experience, is a member in good standing with the LSO, and understands the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3+ years of litigation experience; commercial litigation and enforcement experience is a strong asset.
• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO).
• Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and court filing processes.
• Excellent research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency with modern practice management software, CaseLines, and ACL.

Responsibilities

• Handle a wide array of general commercial litigation matters from intake through trial, mediation, or enforcement of judgments.
• Manage commercial mortgage enforcement proceedings as part of a broad dispute practice.
• Represent clients before courts and administrative tribunals, including motions, discoveries, and hearings.
• Draft high-quality legal documents: pleadings, motion records, facta, and opinions.
• Provide strategic legal advice balancing risk with business realities.
• Collaborate with a team of lawyers, law clerks, and assistants to meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Litigation Files: Handle a wide array of general commercial litigation matters from initial intake through to trial, mediation, or enforcement of judgments.
• Commercial Mortgage Enforcement: Manage secured debt recovery and mortgage enforcement proceedings as part of a comprehensive commercial dispute practice.
• Advocacy: Represent clients before various levels of court and administrative tribunals, including appearing for motions, discoveries, and hearings.
• Strategic Drafting: Prepare high-quality legal documents, including pleadings, motion records, facta, and legal opinions.
• Client Advisory: Act as a primary point of contact for clients, providing strategic legal advice that balances legal risk with commercial reality.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with a dedicated team of lawyers, law clerks, and assistants to ensure files are managed efficiently and court deadlines are met.
