Job summary

Poole Lawyers, a Calgary litigation firm, seeks an associate to build a litigation practice with real mentorship. This is a hands-on role involving drafting, researching, and appearing in chambers alongside experienced lawyers.

You will draft pleadings and court documents, research topics, meet clients, and collaborate with colleagues while supporting mediations and trials. A genuine interest in litigation and strong writing are essential.

Qualifications

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
• Genuine interest in litigation with energy and ambition to build a practice.
• Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Draft pleadings, applications, and related court documents.
• Research a wide range of legal topics.
• Attend and advocate at chambers applications.
• Meet with clients and begin building relationships.
• Collaborate with the firm's lawyers on file-related work.
• Support questioning, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

The opportunity

We are looking for an associate who shares those values and wants to build a litigation practice with real mentorship behind them. This is a hands-on role. You will be drafting, researching, and getting on your feet in chambers alongside lawyers invested in your growth.

You will:

• Draft pleadings, applications, and related court documents
• Research a wide range of legal topics
• Attend and advocate at chambers applications
• Meet with clients and begin building your own relationships
• Collaborate with the firm's lawyers on file-related work
• Support questioning, mediations, arbitrations, and trials

What we are looking for

• Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
• A genuine interest in litigation, with the energy and ambition to build a practice
• Excellent writing, research, and communication skills
• Strong organization and time management. Able to juggle multiple files and deadlines calmly
• Detail-oriented, autonomous, and client-focused
• Comfortable with MS Office and Westlaw
• Interested in the business of law, and in having a life outside the office

An existing practice or portable files are an asset, but not a requirement.
