Job summary

Preszler Law Firm in downtown Calgary seeks a Pleadings Clerk to manage pleadings, court filings, service, and deadlines. This role offers hybrid or remote capacity.

Candidates must have 3+ years of Alberta litigation support experience, strong knowledge of Alberta Rules of Court, and proven ability to handle high-volume workloads with accuracy.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in litigation support or pleadings (Alberta experience required).
  • Strong understanding of Alberta civil litigation procedures and the Alberta Rules of Court.
  • Experience drafting Statements of Claim and coordinating filing and service.
  • Ability to manage high-volume work while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting & Review: review materials, identify defendants, draft Statements of Claim, submit for lawyer review, perform final quality checks.
  • Filing & Service: file Statements of Claim, prepare service documents, coordinate service, track proof of service.
  • Workflow & File Management: maintain tracking systems, manage high-volume caseload, monitor deadlines, update records, collaborate with lawyers and teams.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity at our downtown Calgary office to join the role of a Pleadings Clerk. This role can be in either a Hybrid or a Remote capacity.

While the position offers remote flexibility, applicants must have experience with Alberta civil litigation and a strong understanding of the Alberta Rules of Court, as the role is responsible for managing pleadings, court filings, service requirements, and critical litigation deadlines.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Drafting & Review
  • Review intake materials, client information, and supporting documentation to understand each claim
  • Identify all appropriate parties/defendants and conduct additional searches as needed
  • Draft Statements of Claim in accordance with the Alberta Rules of Court and firm standards
  • Submit pleadings for lawyer review and incorporate revisions
  • Perform final quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to filing
Filing & Service
  • File Statements of Claim with the appropriate Alberta court
  • Prepare service documents and coordinate service on all defendants
  • Communicate with process servers and internal teams to ensure timely and proper service
  • Track and confirm completion of service, including organizing proof of service
Workflow & File Management
  • Maintain and update internal tracking systems to monitor file progress
  • Manage a high-volume caseload while prioritizing urgent files and limitation deadlines
  • Follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure files move forward without delay
  • Update file records and internal systems to reflect current status
  • Monitor limitation periods and critical deadlines
  • Ensure all pleadings and related steps are completed within required timelines
  • Work closely with lawyers, legal assistants, and intake teams to advance files efficiently
  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding file status, drafting, and procedural requirements
  • Provide support and guidance to team members as needed
Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in litigation support or pleadings (Alberta experience required)
  • Strong understanding of Alberta civil litigation procedures and the Alberta Rules of Court
  • Experience drafting Statements of Claim and coordinating filing and service
  • Ability to manage high-volume work while maintaining strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize competing deadlines
