Job summary

Michael Garron Hospital is seeking a senior specialist to lead and coordinate activities of an internal project team in the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation and support of clinical applications, with daily LIS management and troubleshooting responsibilities.

The role involves liaising with Lab staff, management and IT/IS to improve processes and patient care, training staff, and contributing to system architecture while supporting OLIS and CoPath initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Currently active CMLTO General MLT registration preferred.
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Program.
  • Formal computer training or informatics, and quality improvement an asset.

Overview

This position is responsible for leading and coordinating activities of an internal project team in the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation and support of clinical applications. They are also responsible for daily Lab Information Systems (LIS) management, trouble shooting and maintenance. Working independently, they are involved in training, development, design, implementation and support of the Lab information systems. This person will liaise with Lab staff, management and IT/IS personnel to improve processes and increase standards of patient care in the overall system architecture. Activities support improvements in patient focused care and professional practice through the use of practical knowledge and information systems.

Overview

Working independently, they are involved in training, development, design, implementation and support of the Lab information systems. This person will liaise with Lab staff, management and IT/IS personnel to improve processes and increase standard(s) of patient care in the overall system architecture. Activities support improvements in patient focused care and professional practice through the use of practical knowledge and information systems.

Initial project responsibility – Implementation of CoPath Pathology Lab Information System and OLIS support with intention to develop as a strong candidate for ongoing fulltime LIS support operations.

EDUCATION
  • Current active registration with CMLTO (General MLT) (strongly preferred)
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Program ( university level preferred)
  • Formal computer training or informatics , and/or quality improvement an asset
Qualifications
  • Previously participated with the implementation of clinical systems (including OLIS, CoPath, Softlab, equipment interfaces etc)
  • 5 years’ experience in Clinical Laboratory and/or Health Care environment
  • Solid troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Project management/leadership ability to manage project milestones and deliverable
  • Ability to make policy and procedure design recommendations
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and quality monitoring
  • Solid understanding of current operations in the area that the application will be impacting (eg. clinical areas, registration areas)
  • Solid computer skills and knowledge of clinical information systems (2 years, including OLIS, CoPath, Softlab, equipment interfaces etc)
  • Effective verbal, presentation and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills, self-starter, motivated individual able to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in the use of project management tools
  • Knowledge of adult learning methodologies desirable
  • Knowledge of system security and patient confidentiality issues
  • Familiar with Lab Accreditation Standards
  • Good work and attendance record required.
