Job summary

YMCA BC – Chilliwack is seeking a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to deliver safe, engaging aquatic programs at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre and Cheam Leisure Centre locations. The role combines lifeguarding with teaching swim lessons, requiring adaptable schedules and a strong customer-service mindset.

The position reports to the Aquatics Supervisor and offers part-time, permanent employment with weekday, evening, and weekend shifts. Start date is ASAP, salary $23.59–$26.08 per hour.

Qualifications

• Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 3 years).
• CPR level C and AED certificate (valid within 1 year).
• National Lifeguard - Pool Option.

Responsibilities

• Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional manner.
• Develop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants.
• Enforce pool rules and safety regulations.
• Perform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR when necessary.
• Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues.
• Perform routine pool maintenance, as required.
• Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities.
• Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures.
