Job summary

City of Vernon Aquatic Centre is seeking a part-time Lifeguard/Instructor to supervise pool areas, teach swimming programs for all ages, and perform lifeguard duties. The role includes documentation, water quality testing, and light maintenance, with a focus on safety and customer service.

Ideal candidates are at least 16, hold Lifesaving Society Instructor and National Lifeguard certifications, CPR Level C, and have relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old and possess Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor Certification.
• Must hold Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option) and CPR Level C.
• A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrates initiative and willingness to learn; strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to maintain records, complete incident reports, and perform related clerical duties.
• Ability to operate water testing equipment and first aid equipment.
• Must obtain and maintain a Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector).
• Standard First Aid, Pool Operators Level 1, and Lifesaving Instructor Certification are preferred for this role.

Responsibilities

• Performs normal lifeguard duties including supervising guests and ensuring the pool area is free from hazards.
• Plans and instructs all swim programs as needed.
• Completes documentation related to facility incidents, water quality, cleaning schedules, checklists, reports and program records.
• Tests water quality in swimming pools.
• Carries out assigned cleaning and minor preventative maintenance tasks.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Duties during emergencies may differ from regular duties.
