Job summary

The District of Saanich's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department seeks an Aquatic Instructor II / Lifeguard for Gordon Head Recreation Centre. This permanent part-time role combines entry-level aquatic instruction with lifeguarding and supports safe, welcoming aquatic programs and public swims.

Under supervision, you will teach Swim for Life and Patrol programs, prepare lessons, and assist with volunteer and staff development.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old and have Grade 10.
• Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor award current.
• National Lifeguard Pool Option current.
• Standard First Aid with CPR-C current.
• WorkSafeBC Basic First Aid or higher current as required.
• PIC-VS clearance required (police check).

Responsibilities

• Instruct Lifesaving Society Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol programs, plan and prepare lessons, and complete progress cards and reports.
• Assist with orientation and safety supervision of volunteers and swim instructor candidates.
• Supervise pool users, enforce health regulations and facility rules, and respond to incidents during lifeguarded and instructional times.
• Support emergency procedures, inspect equipment, and assist with the training of Assistant Lifeguards and Aquatic Fun Leaders.

Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS)
