Job summary

Association for New Canadians in St. John’s (NL) is seeking a Life Skills Officer to develop and implement programs that help clients build practical skills for independence.

Reporting to the Settlement Services Manager, you will assess needs, create materials, and collaborate with other departments and community partners to ensure relevance and effectiveness. This part-time role requires strong communication, crisis intervention skills, and knowledge of immigrant and refugee challenges;

Qualifications

• Relevant Human Services degree (equivalencies will be considered).
• Skilled in crisis intervention, conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders, strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills (written and oral).
• Previous case management experience supporting a vulnerable population.
• Knowledge of issues facing refugees and immigrants.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience developing goals, timelines, and delivery methods to achieve set objectives.
• Ability to speak a second language is an asset – Arabic, Dari, Pashtu, Farsi, Tigrigna preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement life skills programs and activities in collaboration with the settlement services team.
• Conduct needs assessments to determine the life skills training needs of clients.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the life skills programs and activities, and make recommendations for improvements.
• Create and maintain program materials, including participant manuals, training materials, and evaluation tools.
• Collaborate with other departments within the organization to ensure that life skills programs and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the organization.
• Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, and other service providers to enhance the life skills programs and activities offered to clients.
• Document and report on program outcomes, and maintain accurate records of participant attendance and program evaluations.
• Stay up-to-date with best practices and trends in life skills training, and incorporate new ideas into the programs and activities offered to clients.
• Other duties as required
