Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety seeks an experienced 911 Dispatcher / RCO to provide critical communications for emergency and non-emergency calls. You will manage CAD operations, coordinate units, and maintain radio communications 24/7 in a high-stress environment.

Qualifications include at least one year in emergency communications and preferred APCO/NENA/NAED certifications, with the possibility of a post-secondary credential.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in emergency communications or related field.
• Experience in fast-paced operational environments requiring independent judgment.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
• Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities and use a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• Maintain contact with units on assignment and update status and location.
• Answer non-emergency calls for assistance and retrieve information from computer systems; monitor radio frequencies 24/7.
• Operate communications equipment including radio dispatch consoles and E911 telephones.
• Assist the public by obtaining information required pertaining to emergencies.
