Job summary

Alberta Health Services, Peter Lougheed Centre, Unit 49 Medical Cardiology, seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join an interprofessional team providing safe, patient- and family-centred cardiology care. You will apply nursing processes, critical thinking and clinical judgment under the CLPNA scope of practice, guided by standards and policies.

Qualifications

• Completion of accredited LPN education program.
• Active or eligible for registration with CLHA.

• Recent acute care nursing experience, cardiology preferred.
• Strong teamwork and communication abilities.

Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the health care team, providing care to cardiology patients within the CLPNA scope of practice. The LPN participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. Unit 49 is a strong team environment with Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health Professionals and Support Workers. The successful candidate needs to be committed to providing open communication and feedback with respect for all, care providers, patients and families.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent acute care nursing experience required, at least 2 years. Recent Cardiology experience required, at least 1 year Demonstrated ability to perform and document physical assessments. Demonstrated ability to administer medications within the acute care setting. Demonstrated critical thinking skills re clinical judgment and problem solving. Recent experience in an acute care setting at full scope of practice required. Recent experience in caring for medical/cardiac patients required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal communication skills. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Telemetry Certified. Basic computer skills are an asset.
