Job summary

Springwater Township Public Library in Elmvale, ON is seeking a Library Technician 1 for a part-time role with a Monday shift and two Saturdays per month. The position includes evenings and may require travel between Elmvale, Midhurst and Minesing branches.

Reporting to the Manager of Public Services, the successful candidate will handle circulation, basic reference, and reader’s advisory, assist with programs and communications, and help patrons with technology.

Qualifications

• Diploma from a Community College in a related discipline preferred; Library Technician Diploma is an asset.
• Previous library experience is preferred.
• Experience working with children is preferred.
• Working knowledge of the internet, computer hardware, software, and tablets or devices is required.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Effective communication skills to provide excellent customer service.
• Willing to submit a Criminal Records Search - Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Able to work flexible hours, including Saturdays and some evenings; travel between branches.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine circulation duties: check in/out, requests, fines, registrations.
• Provides basic reference service and guidance with the library catalogue.
• Assists with library programs.
• Assists with communications and marketing.
• Shelves materials and assists patrons with technology questions.
• Maintains courteous public relations at all times.
