Job Title: Legal Assistant - Litigation
Salary: $53,000–$65,000 (based on experience)
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Ottawa, ON (Hybrid)

Overview

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support a busy litigation team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced legal environment and enjoys contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of a law office. The Legal Assistant will assist lawyers with research, document preparation, file management, and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist lawyers with legal research using Westlaw and other research tools
  • Prepare, review, and proofread legal documents including pleadings, contracts, discovery materials, and correspondence
  • Manage and organize case files through document management systems; maintain accurate filing and data entry
  • Support litigation processes by organizing case materials, coordinating document review, and maintaining case calendars
  • Draft and format legal memos, summaries, and reports
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, client communication, and general office duties
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in all documentation and communications
Required Experience
  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk in a law office setting (preferred)
  • Familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Experience with legal practice management systems
  • Proficiency with document management systems and organizing high volumes of files
  • Strong proofreading and writing skills
  • Accurate data entry skills and ability to handle confidential information
  • Strong clerical skills including filing, transcription, and document organization
  • Professional phone etiquette and ability to support lawyers and clients effectively
