Job summary

Sargent & Lundy, L.L.C. in Canada seeks a Substation Physical Project Designer to work with a project team of engineers and other designers on high and extra high voltage substation design.

You will prepare and review substation drawings such as General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, and Grounding Plans. You will mentor staff, review calculations, ensure compliance with codes, and support field walkdowns at client facilities.

Qualifications

• An AssociatesDegree in Drafting or equivalent technical experience.
• 15+ years of substation physical design experience.
• Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.
• Ability to multi-task from project to project.
• Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of a computer.
• AssociatesDegree in CAD or related field is beneficial.
• Familiarity with Bentley Substation, Inventor SDS, and BlueBeam.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical review of project team's comments on vendor design deliverables (ensuring compliance with specifications).
• Acts as the lead while conducting field walkdowns and gathers data at client facilities. Interfaces with clients and contractors to discuss walkdown issues.
• Identifies applicable codes and standards for team use and contributes to quality system improvements.
• Provides guidance and mentoring to designers, drafters, and other project stakeholders in the use of design/drafting tools.
• Reviews and supervises the production of design deliverables.
• Provides technical guidance to others in the preparation and review of calculations.
• Develops cost-effective design approaches for a given project.
• Interfaces with other disciplines to obtain required design inputs and ensures adequacy of input for an integrated design.
