Job summary

Ryerson Canada is seeking a Lead Hand at our Winnipeg, MB branch to lead warehouse operatives and support the Operations Manager in daily duties. The role requires directing staff, ensuring safety compliance, and coordinating load plans in SAP for timely order fulfillment.

You will mentor staff, monitor performance, and liaise with sales and admin to resolve order, quality, and inventory issues, while maintaining high housekeeping and safe work practices.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of warehouse experience, metals industry preferred.
• Supervisory experience is an asset.
• Forklift, crane operation, First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
• Attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate work to assigned staff per directives of Warehouse Supervisor or Operations Manager.
• Train and mentor new staff in order filling, shipping, receiving and stock control.
• Monitor safety and adherence to company policies in the warehouse.
• Plan loads and coordinate trucks and couriers for deliveries.
• Create load plans in SAP and update receiving records.
• Ensure pre-shift equipment inspections are completed.
• Liaise with sales and admin to resolve orders, quality, and inventory issues.
• Loading/unloading of trucks for interbranch and customer deliveries.
• Maintain housekeeping and health, safety, and environmental practices.
• Other duties may be assigned.

As a Lead Hand at Ryerson, you will be responsible for providing direction to warehouse operatives as well as carrying out assigned duties under the supervision of the Operations Manager and Operations Supervisor. In addition, this role is required to lead by example by adhering to and enforcing safety protocols.

This position will work out of our Hervo St branch in Winnipeg, MB.

Shift: Monday through Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Roles and Responsibilities

• Coordinates work to assigned staff as per directives of the Warehouse Supervisor or Operations Manager.
• Trains, motivates and mentors’ new staff in all activities related to order filling, shipping, receiving and stock control.
• Monitors warehouse staff to ensure employees are following company policies and safe work practices.
• Ensures drivers and trucks are operated efficiently through proper planning.
• Creates load plans in SAP as well as other receiving updates
• Ensures pre-shift inspections for all equipment in area of responsibility are completed.
• Liaises with sales and administrative departments to troubleshoot orders, quality, and inventory issues.
• Coordination of 3rd party trucks and couriers for pick-ups and deliveries.
• Performs all work with adherence to health, safety and environmental practices and maintains good housekeeping standards in the work area.
• Loading/unloading of trucks for interbranch and customer deliveries.
• Other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience in a warehouse setting (metals industry experience preferred).
• Supervisory experience considered an asset.
• Training certifications preferred in forklift operations, crane operations and First Aid/CPR.
• Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Ability to independently problem solve issues
• Mechanical aptitude and experience operating machinery.
• Ability to maintain attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); SAP experience is an asset.
