Job summary

City of St. Catharines is seeking a Training Coordinator to develop, coordinate, and conduct programs for City staff to safely operate all types of City-owned equipment.

The role includes testing and certifying operators, managing licensing submissions with the Ministry of Transportation, improving driver and equipment training through classroom, hands-on, online methods, and collaborating with HR, safety partners, and operations to uphold a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Diploma in a related field or equivalent education/experience.
• Valid Class DZ license with clean driving abstract.
• Credentials to obtain DZ signing authority with the MOT.
• Satisfactory police clearance check.
• Excellent instructional and assessment skills; strong communication.
• Airbrake Instructor and MV Driver Training certs or ability to obtain.
• Professional Driver Instructor cert and CVCI Level II or ability to obtain.
• Willingness to attend training to maintain certifications.
• Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act and OHSA; safety-focused.
• Proficient with MS Office, Cityworks, Geotab; safety-conscious.
• Commitment to safety culture and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and conduct training of workers to safely operate City equipment.
• Test and certify individuals per regulatory standards for equipment operations.
• Maintain DZ signing authority status and related licensing submissions.
• Review operator practices and competencies on a scheduled basis.
• Maintain training records and license status for MOT compliance.
• Assist with seasonal training sessions and group orientations.
• Evaluate new vehicles and training programs; develop training requirements.
• Deliver training using classroom, hands-on, online, and multimedia methods.
• Investigate incidents and provide written recommendations for prevention.
• Liaise with HR, safety agencies, and equipment suppliers; participate in safety committees.
• Monitor quarterly driver licenses and initiate corrective actions when warranted.
• Inspect workplaces, conduct safety briefings, and document safety activities.
