Job summary

Responsibilities

• Conduct equipment orientation and one-on-one practical MoH training, testing and evaluating operator competency.
• Support classroom instruction of defensive driving and practical training.
• Assist with creation, implementation, and evaluation of training materials and assessments.
• Promote compliance with ministry policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Under guidance, perform follow-up evaluations to assess operator competency and training needs.
• Attend manufacturer training sessions to maintain technical knowledge.
• Document training records and competency data in ministry databases.
• Promote a safe, respectful workplace and health and safety compliance.

Job description

The Opportunity:

The Ministry of Highways (MoH), Provincial Operational Services Branch, is seeking an innovative, responsible, and motivated Field Trainer. Reporting to the Safety Training Manager, the successful candidate will provide classroom, field, and hands-on instruction to ministry employees, supporting the safe and effective operation and maintenance of ministry equipment. The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge of ministry operations and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships to deliver training, coaching, and guidance to ministry employees across the province. Through hands-on instruction, operator evaluations, and field-based support, the Field Trainer plays an important role in developing operator competency and promoting the safe and effective delivery of ministry programs and services. The successful candidate will be required to complete the MoH Train the Trainer (TTT) certification program for all equipment within 12 months of hire. This is a 1-year term position. Core responsibilities will include:

• Conducts equipment orientation and one-on-one practical MoH equipment training, including testing and evaluating to ensure operator competency in the safe operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment.
• Supports classroom instruction of defensive driving practices through practical training.
• Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of training materials, manuals, competency assessments, and instructional resources related to equipment operation and associated work processes.
• Promotes understanding of and compliance with ministry policies, procedures, and standards, including safe operating procedures, hours of work requirements, and respectful workplace and anti-harassment policies.
• Under the guidance of the Safety Training Manager and Regional Trainer, conducts follow-up evaluations to assess operator competency and identify additional training requirements
• Participates in training sessions offered by equipment manufacturers and industry representatives to maintain technical knowledge and instructional expertise.
• Documents and maintains training records, competency evaluations, and certification information within ministry databases.
• Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through coaching, mentorship, and training activities.
• Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with The Saskatchewan Employment Act, The Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, The Traffic Safety Act, The Vehicle Weight and Dimension Regulations, and Ministry of Highways policies and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
