Job summary

Mitchell & Associates in Vaughan is seeking a laser production technician to plan and set up production runs, calibrate laser systems, and maintain equipment for optimal performance.

You will collaborate with quality and engineering, document job details, and drive throughput improvements while adhering to safety standards and company policies. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or diploma is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, including 3-D drawings.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of MRP is an asset.
  • Experience in metal fabrication and assembly environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and set-up a production run, aiming for minimal scrap and tracking labour input.
  • Set up, calibrate, and align laser systems for accurate operation.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, and minor repairs to ensure equipment functions.
  • Execute laser procedures safely, following strict safety protocols.
  • Record material and part sizes, program numbers and work orders.
  • Coordinate throughput improvement efforts
  • Assess operator utilization and monitor capacity planning
  • Demonstrate 5S Methodology in the workspace
  • Comply with applicable codes, standards, and health & safety regulations
  • Adhere to company policies, including Health & Safety, QA, and HR policies

Job description

Essential Functions
  • Plan and set-up a production run, ensuring minimum scrap usage and monitoring labor entry.
  • Setting up, calibrating, and aligning laser systems for accurate operation
  • Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to ensure equipment functionality
  • Conducting laser procedures safely and effectively, following strict safety protocols to protect themselves and others
  • Record and document all the information that is required for a specific job which includes material and part sizes, program number and type of work order
  • Interface with Quality and Engineering
  • Prepares and updates upper management team with any major issue that needs to be resolved
  • Coordinate throughput improvement efforts
  • Assess operator utilization
  • Maximize and monitor capacity planning
  • Demonstrate 5S Methodology in your work area
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28)
  • Abide by all Company policies including, but not limited to Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental Systems, HR policies and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Must work in accordance with H&S regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear PPE and certain clothing as required by the Company
  • Perform other duties as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • 20% office, 80% plant floor (PPE required)
  • Both office setting and production environment
  • Constant communication with employees, peers and management
  • Occasional outdoor activities
PHYSCIAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Must be able to work with push/pull forces of up to 50lbs or less
  • Ability to be present on the production floor daily
  • Ability to use computer for a long period of time.

Salary: $30 - $35 per hour
