Job summary

Martinrea International in Vaughan, Ontario, is seeking a skilled Laser Operator/Production Technician to plan production runs, set up and calibrate laser systems, and monitor throughput on the shop floor. The role combines hands-on fabrication tasks with quality checks, safety compliance and collaboration with Quality and Engineering to resolve issues and improve capacity.

You will document job details, work 80% on the plant floor and 20% in the office, and participate in 5S and environmental

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma/degree.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, (3-D drawings).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding in Pro-E, AutoCAD and Solidworks software would be an asset.
  • 2 years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Understanding of MRP would be an asset.
  • Good understanding of flat development methods, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance, Metrology, and Statistical Process Control fundamentals.
  • Experience in an industrial metal fabrication and assembly environment.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and with minimum direction.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be both a team player and team leader.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and set-up a production run, ensuring minimum scrap usage and monitoring labor entry.
  • Setting up, calibrating, and aligning laser systems for accurate operation
  • Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to ensure equipment functionality
  • Conducting laser procedures safely and effectively, following strict safety protocols to protect themselves and others
  • Record and document all the information that is required for a specific job which includes material and part sizes, program number and type of work order
  • Interface with Quality and Engineering
  • Prepares and updates upper management team with any major issue that needs to be resolved
  • Coordinate throughput improvement efforts
  • Assess operator utilization
  • Maximize and monitor capacity planning
  • Demonstrate 5S Methodology in your work area
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28)
  • Abide by all Company policies including, but not limited to Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental Systems, HR policies and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Must work in accordance with H&S regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
  • Must use or wear PPE and certain clothing as required by the Company
  • Perform other duties as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • 20% office, 80% plant floor (PPE required)
  • Both office setting and production environment
  • Constant communication with employees, peers and management
  • Occasional outdoor activities
PHYSCIAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Must be able to work with push/pull forces of up to 50lbs or less
  • Ability to be present on the production floor daily
  • Ability to use computer for a long period of time.
