  • Must understand Woodland Cree language and culture, practices, protocols, customs and beliefs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Woodland Cree land-based teachings to Camp Home and Prevention relatives at Montreal Lake 106A and Little Red 106B.
  • Deliver hands-on learning in wilderness and/or camp settings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and act as a positive role model; resolve conflicts and supervise safety.

MLCFA Inc is looking to fill a part-time contract position (1 year) as a Land Based Facilitator. This role is to provide Woodland Cree traditional land-based teachings to Camp Home and Prevention relatives of Montreal Lake 106A and Little Red 106B through hands on learning in a wilderness and/or camp setting; to provide with the cultural knowledge required to be a self-sustainable First Nation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years experience in traditional land-based practices including, but not limited to; hunting, fishing, trapping, wilderness survival, gun safety, water safety etc.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and over.
  • Must have all related safety tickets (ex. first aid/CPR, gun safety, wilderness survival etc.)
  • Must understand the Woodland Cree language and have extensive knowledge of First Nations culture, practices, protocols, customs and belief systems.
  • Computer literacy with particular proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflict.
  • Excellent interpersonal, clinical and communication skills as well as written, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be a positive role model.
  • Must not be actively involved with a First Nations Child and Family Agency or Department of Social Services as a client receiving family services or child protection services.
  • Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Satisfactory CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Willingness to work in both Montreal Lake 106A and Little Red 106B.
