Job summary

The City of Chilliwack Public Works and Parks Operations Department is hiring 3 Labourer I – Public Works (Time Duration) positions. You will support the department with semi-skilled labour tasks, such as grass cutting, flagging, loading equipment, and street cleaning.

Required: Grade 12 and 2+ years in labouring or equivalent, BC Driver's Licence, and experience in a range of trades. Rate: CAD 33.14/hour.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education with 2+ years of labourer experience or equivalent.
• Valid BC Driver's Licence.
• Experience in non and semi skilled labour tasks.
• Courses/experience in trades and skills.
• Familiarity with equipment operation and safety practices.
• Ability to recognize and report safety risks.
• Strong communication with supervisors, staff and public.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist through reliable semi-skilled labourer duties such as grass cutting, flagging, loading equipment.
• Repair fences and perform street cleaning as needed.
• Remove garbage and use manual tools for various tasks.
• Laying pipes and digging as required by projects.

Overview

The City of Chilliwack Public Works and Parks Operations Department requires 3 Labourer I – Public Works (Time Duration) positions to assist the departments through reliable performance in semi skilled labourer duties.

Are you the one we’re looking for?

We are looking for individuals who have experience as a semi skilled or skilled labourer with experience in any one of these fields: cutting grass, flagging, loading equipment, repairing fences, cleaning streets, removing garbage, using manual tools, laying pipes, digging, etc.

In order for you to succeed in this role, you will need to have the following requirements and skills:

• Must have Grade 12 education with a minimum of two (2) years experience in the labourer force - OR - an equivalent combination;
• -Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;
• Experience in non and semi skilled tasks associated with labourer duties;
• Courses and/or experience in a variety of skills and trades
• Experience and or knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of various types of equipment;
• Able to recognize and rectify and/or report upon actual or potential safety risks;
• Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, property owners and the public;
• Work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision;
