Job summary

The District of Kent, located in the Eastern Fraser Valley, is seeking a full-time Labourer 1 for our Public Works Department in Agassiz, BC. The role involves general labour, assisting with drivers of light vehicles, and operating hand power tools in a safety-conscious environment.

The successful candidate will have a Grade 12 diploma, minimum two years in Public Works, and a BC driver’s licence with a recent abstract. Wage is governed by CUPE Local 458 collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years experience in the Public Works construction and maintenance field.
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence, Class 5 (Class 3 with air endorsement preferred), with recent abstract.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand power tools such as string trimmers, drills, saws, pressure washers, paint sprayers, small pumps, hand mowers, etc.
• Perform daily inspections/minor maintenance and operate power tools and vehicles in accordance with recognized and acceptable practices (including safety of the public, property and staff)
• Assist drivers of vehicles of 10,000 kg gross vehicle weight and under as needed.

The District of Kent, located in the picturesque Eastern Fraser Valley, is offering an exciting opportunity in our Public Works Department for a full-time Labourer 1.
Labourer 1’s perform tasks ranging from general labouring work involving non- or semi-skilled duties, to providing assistance to drivers of vehicles of 10,000 kg gross vehicle weight and under.
The incumbent will be required to operate hand power tools assigned including string trimmers, drills, saws, pressure washers, paint sprayers, small pumps, hand mowers, etc. Additional duties include performing daily inspections/minor maintenance and operating power tools and vehicles in accordance with recognized and acceptable practices (including the safety of the public, property and other staff members).

• Grade 12 diploma or proven equivalent;
• Course completion in equipment operation or combination of related training and experience;
• Minimum two (2) years experience in the Public Works construction and maintenance field; and
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence, Class 5 (Class 3 with air endorsement preferred), with recent abstract.

Pay and benefits for this bargaining unit position is in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2025 post-probationary wage rate for this position is $32.31 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
