Job summary

District of West Vancouver is seeking a Labourer for Utilities Construction (Temporary Full-Time) to support water, sewer and storm utility systems on the North Shore. The role involves manual tasks, equipment upkeep, and operating basic tools, with emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Applicants must have BC Class 5 license (drivers abstract required), and preference given to EOCP certification or Class 1/3 licences. Starting rate is $31.96/hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.

Qualifications

  • EOCP Certification or equivalent in utilities construction.
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence required; Class 1 or 3 preferred, Class 5 acceptable for consideration.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding outdoor labour in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • performing a variety of tasks in the construction or operation of water, sewer and storm utility systems
  • locating and repairing leaks, assisting in the installation, repair, and servicing of water, sewer and storm systems
  • cleaning trucks and equipment, as needed
  • maintaining equipment in a safe and secure manner
  • operating basic hand and power tools; such as, shovels, pipe saws, plate tamper, etc.
  • maintaining daily pick-up records
  • providing manual labourer assistance on various tasks and assignments; and,
  • other related duties as required.
  • work effectively and efficiently in a team environment while maintaining a safety-first mentality
  • use a variety of tools for general maintenance and construction work; and,
  • work outdoors in a physically demanding role in all types of weather conditions.

LABOURER- UTILITIES CONSTRUCTION
(Temporary Full-Time)

Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. The District of West Vancouver’s Engineering Construction Department currently has temporary full-time Labourer positions available in the Utilities Construction team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of manual tasks, which include:



  • performing a variety of tasks in the construction or operation of water, sewer and storm utility systems;

  • locating and repairing leaks, assisting in the installation, repair, and servicing of water, sewer and storm systems;

  • cleaning trucks and equipment, as needed;

  • maintaining equipment in a safe and secure manner;

  • operating basic hand and power tools; such as, shovels, pipe saws, plate tamper, etc.;

  • maintaining daily pick-up records;

  • providing manual labourer assistance on various tasks and assignments; and,

  • other related duties as required.


The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:



  • work effectively and efficiently in a team environment while maintaining a safety-first mentality;

  • use a variety of tools for general maintenance and construction work; and,

  • work outdoors in a physically demanding role in all types of weather conditions.


Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following credentials:



  • experience or training in utilities construction;

  • EOCP Certification; and/or,

  • possession of a valid Class 1 or 3 BC Drivers Licence.

This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase based on hours completed in the position.
