Job summary

RailWorks is seeking a Mini Tie Gang General Labourer to support track installation and maintenance. Reporting to the Track Supervisor, you will contribute to safety, quality, and on-time production while helping keep customers satisfied.

This role involves outdoor work across territories, exposure to weather, and operating basic track maintenance equipment. Valid Ontario G license required; unionised environment with benefits including health and dental.

Qualifications

  • 1 year related experience in construction of general labourer role is preferred
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards regulations and safety precautions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario class G driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Embrace safety culture and adhere to policies and procedures
  • Repair and/or replace track components such as ties, plates, spikes, etc.
  • Observe conditions of track, beds, and right-of-way to detect defects and report them
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment; ensure daily maintenance and inspections
  • Perform administrative duties related to proper documentation per PNR Quality Management System
  • Meet daily goals with safe, timely production following industry standards
  • Other duties as assigned by Track Foreman or delegate

Position Summary

Reporting to the Track Supervisor and Track Foreman, the Mini Tie Gang General Labourer is responsible for successfully completing day-to-day tasks by meeting or exceeding corporate goals for safety, quality, profitability and schedule, resulting in extreme customer satisfaction. The Mini Tie Gang General Labourer will primarily be engaged in the installation of track ties throughout territories maintained by PNR RailWorks Inc. When not installing ties, the General Labourer may be responsible for various other Track Maintenance activities, as required

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Embrace our safety culture and adhering to industry and company policies and procedures
  • Repair and/or replace track components as needed, such as ties, plates, spikes, etc.
  • Observes conditions of track, track beds, and track right-of-way to detect, report and repair problems or defects
  • Responsibly operates company vehicles and/or equipment and ensures all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed
  • Performs special duties as assigned by the Track Foreman or delegate
  • Performs any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR Quality Management System
  • Able to appreciate time-sensitive duties, plan and execute accurately to achieve daily goals and production in a safe manner according to industry standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 1 year related experience in construction of general labourer role is preferred

  • Valid Ontario class G driver's license
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Works outdoors and able to be exposed to all weather conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds on uneven terrain
  • Exposed to loud noise.
  • Exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain concentration and mental alertness in a variety of situations
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
