Douglas College is seeking a Laboratory Technician IV in Geography at the New Westminster campus. You will deliver laboratory instruction, evaluate and supervise students, and prepare materials for lab use, ensuring a productive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography (Physical Geography preferred).
  • Experience with lab and field equipment and safety.
  • Strong ability to explain geographic concepts to students.
  • Proficiency in Excel and ArcGIS software.
  • Drone certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide laboratory instruction, evaluation and supervision in geography lab.
  • Prepare materials and equipment for laboratory use.
  • Support a safe, engaging learning environment for students.
  • Operate field equipment and support field work as needed.
  • Coordinate with campus teams across locations.

$32.04 to $36.06 hourly. Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement. annually.

The Opportunity

The Lab Technician IV contributes to the success of Douglas College and its community of learners by providing laboratory instruction, evaluation and supervision of students in the geography laboratory including preparation of materials for use in the laboratory. The Lab Technician IV also provides exceptional client-centred service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geography (Physical Geography preferred) from a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory and field equipment and apparatus together with a good working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of an Open Geography Laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with students and accurately explain geographic concepts including working with quantitative data and equations.
  • Ability to function effectively in field conditions, including transporting, setting up and using field equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision as well as establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computers and geography-related software (MS Excel, ArcGIS).
  • Current drone pilot certificate and experience are assets.

  • This part-time, (28 hours) regular position is available starting September 21, 2026.
  • Hours of work will typically be scheduled Monday to Friday, between 7:30 am and 10:30 pm.
  • This position is required to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs
  • Shift days and times may change depending on operational needs
  • Evening and occasional weekend work may be required.
  • The position is located at the New Westminster campus; and will be required to work at all Douglas College campuses and offsite locations
