Job summary

This casual role supports quality patient care by performing clerical tasks and assisting with specimen processing under supervision. Shifts are days, with short-notice coverage and potential for permanent positions.

Qualifications

• Typing test (5 minutes) with 45+ NWPM from a recognized institution.
• Medical Terminology Certificate required.
• Your Resume outlines two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Cover Letter stating availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work.

Responsibilities

• Scheduling appointments, telephoning, filing, and invoicing.
• Receives and registers patients for data entry into the LIS.
• Receives, processes, and prepares patient samples for testing.
• Prioritizes workflow and packages samples for send-out according to regulations.
• Mails and distributes patient reports as required.
• Maintains laboratory inventory and records.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Shift Times: Days Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00

Days off: Sun, Sat, STAT

What will you work on?

• Scheduling appointments, performing computer entry, filing, telephoning, faxing, and invoicing;
• Receives and registers patients by obtaining necessary information for patient data and test entry into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) according to established procedures;
• Receives, processes, and prepares (centrifuges) patient samples in accordance with established procedures;
• Prioritizes workflow and prepares (packages) samples for send-out in accordance with all transportation regulations and procedures;
• Mails and distributes patient reports as required;
• Distributes, files, retrieves, and disposes of laboratory specimens, slides, and blocks;
• Maintains laboratory inventory and supplies;
• Maintains a variety of records such as standing orders and requisitions, temperature records, cleaning and disinfection logs, inventory logs;
• Performs other related duties as required.

• A 5-minute typing test (45+ NWPM) from a recognized institution, completed within the past 48 months (non-supervised tests not accepted).
• A Medical Terminology Certificate
