Interior Health Authority in Cranbrook, BC, is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Medical Laboratory Department at East Kootenay Regional Hospital. This casual opportunity involves working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with flexible hours.

The role includes performing tests, handling specimens, entering LIS data, validating results, maintaining instruments, and participating in ongoing training.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and/or complex tests using manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory.
• Greet patients and collect and/or receive specimens.
• Enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems.
• Validate and report test results.
• Maintain instruments and prepare solutions and control agents per procedures and safety standards.
• Participate in departmental training programs to learn new/existing tests and procedures.

About The Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client-centred care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory. Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.
