Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs in Medicine Hat is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to join the Accession unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. You will provide high quality service to clients in the clinical laboratory, handling procurement, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens in a safe, timely manner.

This Regular Part Time role (FTE 0.80) includes days, evenings, nights and weekends, with on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL and access to SAIT/NAIT courses.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Equivalency defined as completion of an MLT and/or CLXT program in Canada; or outside Canada; and/or MLT/CLXT students who have completed phlebotomy training.
• High school diploma may be considered; on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost during probation.
• On-the-job and formal training courses (SAIT/NAIT) may be required at the employee's expense within probation per HSAA.
• Experience in blood and ECG collections is preferred.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Equivalency is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and/or Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and/or MLT or CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. Upon hire, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in blood and ECG collections.
