Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to support the Sturgeon Community Hospital laboratory. The role combines phlebotomy, specimen processing and data entry to ensure accurate test reporting for patients in the St. Albert area.
You will work 0.60 FTE with rotating Day/Evening/Night shifts and a 7.75-hour shift pattern, contributing to a comprehensive laboratory service for adults, children and newborns.

Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant I will provide Laboratory support to the Sturgeon Community Hospital. The primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques while providing patient centered care, performing urinalysis, specimen entry, specimen processing and transport, troubleshooting problem specimens, and reception duties.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must have a recent demonstrated experience - practicum or worked experience - performing phlebotomy within the last year (12 months).
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated experience with EPIC Beaker - practicum or worked experience - within the last year is strongly preferred. Recent experience with urinalysis within the last year is preferred. Recent experience with data entry, specimen processing and troubleshooting is preferred. Recent experience using Rover is preferred. Worked experience with SPECTRE is an asset.
