Alberta Precision Laboratories at Foothills Medical Centre and Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to join the Pre-Analytical team.

Join Alberta Precision Laboratories at Foothills Medical Centre and Arthur Child Cancer Centre.Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), Alberta's largest hospital and one of Canada's leading trauma, research, and teaching hospitals, is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant I to join our Pre-Analytical team. This role supports high-quality diagnostic laboratory services across FMC and the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Working in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment, you will gain experience in inpatient and outpatient collections, specimen processing, quality management, troubleshooting, and laboratory support. Responsibilities include collecting and processing specimens, entering patient information into the Laboratory Information System, ensuring accurate patient and specimen identification, maintaining specimen integrity, and handling biological materials according to established safety guidelines. Reporting to the Supervisor or Manager, you will also operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, and contribute to a safe and efficient work environment. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent and relevant experience and competency in phlebotomy techniques within the last year. Recent and relevant experience in RRL setting or an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last 2 years. Experience with neonatal skin puncture within the last year. Experience with EPIC. Proficiency in data entry. Demonstrates excellent reliability, accuracy, productivity and quality of work in adherence to policies, procedures and performance standards. Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development, conflict resolution or change management. Ability to walk extensively. Experience in outpatient lab one patient flow process
