Job summary

LifeLabs Medical Laboratory Services is hiring a Lab Patient Technician in the Toronto area for a temporary part-time float role. You will handle patient greeting, specimen collection, phlebotomy, ECG tracings, and specialized collections with proper documentation.

Ideal candidates have a Laboratory Assistant background, phlebotomy/ECG experience, excellent communication, and strong privacy awareness. Weekend shifts and flexibility required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients.
• Strong empathy and adaptability to change.
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients follow necessary test protocol prior to collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, with documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other processing data.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
