Wiikwemkoong Unceded Indian Reserve is seeking a Cultural Services Knowledge Keeper to support Wiikwemkoong’s Child and Family Services with culturally grounded programs and ceremonies. The role reports to the Team Lead and Cultural Services Supervisor and aims to preserve Anishnaabe values in service delivery.

Responsibilities include delivering cultural teachings, coordinating ceremonies, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with staff to integrate cultural practices into Wellness

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in Social Services or Native Studies (or equivalent).
  • Three (3) years’ experience in social service organizations developing cultural programs and services.
  • Experience working with First Nation communities, organizations and communities.
  • Experience providing cultural teachings and facilitating cultural ceremonies.
  • Ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Cultural Services Team to ensure culturally appropriate services for Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services.
  • Integrate cultural knowledge and ceremonies into Wellness Plans for children, youth and families in care.
  • Provide cultural services and complete ceremonies for children, youth, families and staff within the territory.
  • Incorporate and promote Anishinaabe cultural values, beliefs and practices in program delivery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all client interactions; ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of documents.

Knowledge Keeper – Cultural Services

Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking 5 qualified individuals to fill the position of Cultural Services – Knowledge Keeper. The position will report to the Team Lead and Cultural Services Supervisor. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s G’Chi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure that services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The Cultural Services-Knowledge Keeper is a pivotal role within the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Child and Family Services program, responsible for providing cultural services and to complete traditional teachings and ceremonies for children, youth families involved with Child and Family Services. In addition, provide cultural services to staff and membership from the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

  • This role is pivotal in integrating cultural knowledge and ceremonies into Wellness Plans for children, youth and families involved within the Child and Family Services program, ensuring a holistic approach to their well-being.
  • Provide cultural services and complete ceremonies for children, youth, families and staff for the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
  • Incorporate and promote Anishinaabe cultural values, beliefs and practices into program delivery
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all client interactions
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all program documents and records are secured.
Requirements
  • Post secondary diploma in Social Services or Native Studies may be considered.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in social service organizations developing cultural programs and services.
  • Experience working with First Nation’s people, organizations and communities.
  • Experience providing cultural teachings and facilitating cultural ceremonies.
  • Ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
