Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking (4) qualified individuals to fill the position of First Nation Representatives. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s Gchi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure the services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The First Nation Representative will report directly to the Supervisor – First Nation Representative Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• The First Nation Representative is responsible for representing the First Nation’s interests in child welfare matters by providing culturally grounded, child-focused, and family-centered services.
• This role involves conducting child protection investigations, assessing risk and safety, supporting families through case planning and reunification efforts, and ensuring compliance with provincial child welfare legislation and court requirements.
• Provide ongoing support to children and youth in care, coordinates services to meet their physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs, and work collaboratively with families, community partners, and service providers.
• Participate in case reviews, family conferences, and alternative dispute resolution processes, maintains accurate and confidential records, prepares legal and administrative documentation, and contributes to team-based service delivery.
• Ongoing professional development, ethical practice, and respectful relationship-building are integral to this role.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related social services field.
• Minimum four (4) years’ experience working with children, youth, and families in a social service setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices, with familiarity with services in Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills to effectively engage diverse families.
• Ability to manage multiple cases independently while working collaboratively within a team environment.
• Experience using case management systems (Caseworks preferred).
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and flexibility to work evenings or weekends as required.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, cultural safety, and professionalism.
• Must be able to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Salary: $83,851 Grade 8, Step 1
