Job description

Westin Nova Scotian
1181 Hollis St
Halifax, NS B3H2P6, CAN

Description

You are a dependable, detail-oriented, and hardworking team member who takes pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. You understand that a spotless, well-maintained environment is essential for both safety and efficiency — and you play a vital role in ensuring that the culinary team can focus on creating exceptional dining experiences. Whether you’re operating the dish machine, hand-washing delicate items, organizing storage areas, or deep-cleaning kitchen equipment, you take every task seriously and perform it with care and consistency.

You are essential to the heart of the operation — keeping the kitchen running smoothly, safely, and seamlessly. In the role of Kitchen Steward, you will:

  • Be Great at What You Do – You ensure that every plate, glass, and utensil is spotless, sanitized, and ready for service. You operate dishwashing and cleaning equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining your work area in an orderly fashion. You understand that your attention to detail keeps the kitchen moving — and that clean, well-organized tools help the entire team deliver excellence.
  • Be a Cleanliness & Organization Champion – You take pride in keeping every area of the kitchen clean, from prep surfaces and walk-ins to floors, walls, and equipment. You follow established cleaning schedules, safely handle chemicals, and complete deep-cleaning projects as assigned. You keep everything in its place, ensuring efficiency and safety for everyone working in the kitchen.
  • Be a Safety & Sanitation Agent – You follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards as outlined by the hotel and by local health authorities. You wear protective gear when required, handle cleaning agents with care, and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards immediately. You understand that proper food safety practices and attention to sanitation protect both guests and staff.
