Job summary

Ultimate Renovations, a Calgary-based leader in high-end residential renovations, seeks a detail-oriented Junior Residential Construction Estimator to support budgets and project prep across Estimating, Sales, Design and Production teams.

You will work with an experienced team, expanding your knowledge of residential construction methods and costs while taking on more responsibility as you grow with the company.

Qualifications

• Experience or education in residential construction or estimating.
• Strong math and analytical abilities.
• Detail-oriented with good time management.
• Experience with Excel and estimating software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed construction estimates and budgets.
• Review drawings, specs, and project information to understand the scope.
• Perform material and labour takeoffs.
• Request and review pricing from trades and suppliers.
• Assist with preparing scopes of work and project specifications.
• Help identify missing information, scope gaps and cost drivers.
• Assist with pricing change orders and project revisions.
• Maintain estimating templates, pricing information and cost databases.
• Review completed projects and job-cost information to improve estimating accuracy.
• Communicate with trades, suppliers, designers and internal teams to clarify requirements.
• Continue developing knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing and costs.

Junior Construction Estimator

Ultimate Renovations is looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Residential Construction Estimator to join our team.

For over 45 years, Ultimate Renovations has specialized in high-end residential renovations throughout Calgary and surrounding areas. Our projects range from major interior renovations and additions to complete home transformations.

As a Junior Residential Construction Estimator, you will work closely with our Estimating, Sales, Design and Production teams to help develop accurate construction budgets and prepare projects for construction.

This is a great opportunity for someone with residential construction knowledge who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems and learning how complex renovation projects come together. You will be supported by an experienced team and given the opportunity to take on more responsibility as your knowledge and experience grow.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with preparing detailed construction estimates and project budgets.
• Review drawings, specifications and project information to understand the required scope of work.
• Complete material and labour takeoffs.
• Request and review pricing from trade partners and suppliers.
• Assist with preparing scopes of work and project specifications.
• Help identify missing information, scope gaps and potential cost considerations.
• Assist with pricing change orders and project revisions.
• Maintain estimating templates, pricing information and cost databases.
• Review completed projects and job-cost information to help improve future estimating accuracy.
• Communicate with trades, suppliers, designers and internal team members to clarify project requirements.
• Continue developing your knowledge of residential construction methods, sequencing and costs.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience or education in residential construction, estimating, project coordination, construction management or a related field.
• A basic understanding of residential construction methods, materials and sequencing.
• Renovation experience would be considered an asset.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working with contractors, suppliers and internal team members.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and an ability to learn estimating and construction software.
• Post-secondary education in construction management, engineering technology, estimating or a related discipline would be considered an asset.
