BUILD IT in Calgary is hiring a Construction Estimator to join our full-time team. You will prepare cost estimates by analyzing drawings, coordinating with project management, and reviewing specifications to ensure competitive bids.

The role requires experience with estimates for retail, restaurant, commercial, or industrial development, and strong attention to detail. Collaboration with subcontractors and suppliers is essential to deliver accurate bids.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of estimating experience with a GC in ICI.
• Experience in Ground-up Construction is asset.
• Experience with Planswift and proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
• Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques.
• Ability to analyze and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare quotes and design proposals for management, including service calls and new projects.
• Identify and select qualified subcontractors and solicit competitive pricing for tenders.
• Analyze tender drawings and provide comments on design, scheduling, cost savings, and issues.

• Prepare detailed estimates for materials, labour, equipment, subcontracts, and facilities.
• Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work and analyze contractor quotes for best value.

Role Description

We are currently seeking a full-time Construction Estimator to join our team in Calgary.

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing and reviewing estimates for various construction projects, coordinating with the project management team, and analyzing construction drawings and specifications to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare quotes and design proposals for management, including service calls and new projects.
• Identify and select highly qualified subcontractors and solicit competitive pricing for tenders.
• Conduct a thorough analysis of tender drawings and provide comments on design, scheduling, possible cost savings, and potential construction issues.
• Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal meetings, tender walks, conferences, and site visits.
• Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for materials, labour, equipment, subcontracts, and construction facilities.
• Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work, and accept, review, and analyze contractor quotes to determine best value.
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Maintain the Master Tender List, ensure trade information is up to date, and consistently search for new trades to add.
• Coordinate and present bids to management in a timely and organized manner.
• Present cost estimates to support customer proposals, taking general and extraordinary conditions into consideration.
• Prepare project bid status reports and ensure compliance with all specifications, Contract Statements of Work, and Bid Invitations, with an understanding of contractual terms and conditions.

Qualifications

• Possess a minimum of 2+ years of estimating experience (with a GC in ICI) in construction management, including overseeing projects in retail, restaurant, commercial, or industrial development.
• Experience in Ground-up Construction is considered an asset.
• Experience with estimating software such as Planswift and proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
• Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and techniques.
• Experience in construction estimating and bidding for general contract work.
• Ability to analyze and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize.
