Job summary

SOUTHLAND is seeking a Journeyperson Mechanic to service and repair school buses, in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This role includes field work on down buses and participation in CVIP inspections.

You will work Monday to Friday, day shift, with a focus on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and documentation. The company offers training, competitive wages, and benefits after probation.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Ticket is required.
  • Own hand tools.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • 2–5 years related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 2 or 3 asset).
  • CVIP license is an asset.
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read diagnostic/manual measurement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses.
  • Diagnosing equipment problems.
  • CVIP inspections.
  • Respond to breakdowns.
  • Spring and winter maintenance.
  • Complete documentation of repairs.
  • Coordinate with shop management on schedules.
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures.

Journeyperson Mechanic

SOUTHLAND is currently seeking a Journeyperson Mechanic to join our team of maintenance professionals. This role is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses. We offer personalized training, competitive wages, and a flexible schedule that allows for work-life balance. The shift for this position is Monday through Friday, day shift.

Duties
  • Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
  • Diagnosing equipment problems
  • CVIP Inspections
  • Respond to breakdowns
  • Spring and winter maintenance
  • Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
  • Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
Requirements
  • Journeyperson Ticket
  • Own hand tools
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • 2 – 5 years related experience
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Volts & Resistors)
  • Computer proficiency
Remuneration
  • Hourly rate - $34 – $38 per hour based on experience
  • Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
  • Employee Benefits Plan (after 3-month probation)
  • Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
  • Annual Tool and Boot Allowance - $750 (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
