Job summary

The City of Red Deer is seeking a Journeyperson Powerline Technician for a one-year term to perform skilled work on overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission lines. Experience with high voltage systems and a Red Seal certificate is preferred; a 4th year apprentice may be considered.

Responsibilities include setting poles, wiring, cable installations, transformers, and meters, plus responding to after-hours calls.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Powerline Technician certificate (Red Seal) or 4th year apprentice with strong skills.
• Valid Class 3 Drivers License with Q Endorsement.
• Knowledge of high-tension electric distribution and transmission line practices.
• Ability to understand oral and written instructions and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Construct, install, maintain, and repair electric distribution and transmission systems.
• Work on high voltage lines (4 kV and 25 kV) safely and efficiently.
• Set poles, string wire, install electrical equipment and meters.
• Operate line trucks and equipment; respond to after-hours trouble calls.
• Work under supervision or independently with quality inspections.
