Job summary

West Coast SeniorsHousing Management in Coquitlam, BC is seeking a dedicated Janitor to maintain common areas, ensure sanitation and a safe environment for residents and staff.

Reporting to the Support Services Manager, duties include routine cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, waste removal, bed making, and infection control. Candidates must have Grade 10, WHMIS and First Aid certificates and be able to read, write and speak English. A vulnerable sector check is required.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• WHMIS certificate.
• First Aid certificate as applicable.
• Able to read, write and speak English proficiently.
• Vulnerable sector check required.
• Physically able to perform repetitive tasks and lifting.

Responsibilities

• Be an engaged collaborative team player, supporting a positive organizational culture.
• Carry out routine cleaning throughout the building and suites, including dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and cleaning appliances.
• Maintain a safe environment through accident prevention, emergency knowledge, and proper use of supplies and equipment.
• Report significant changes or concerns to nursing staff as required.
• Attend and participate in community and education programs.
• Perform other related duties as required.

About the Role

The Janitor reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and performs all aspects of cleaning duties in the community common areas to maintain the established standards for sanitation, cleanness, and safe work environment for all persons served.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

• Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing andmaintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen theorganizational culture and purpose.
• Carriesout all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building andsuites which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaning appliances;washing floors, walls, windows and doors; changing and making beds, removingcurtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal;terminal cleaning of suites.
• Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
  • accident prevention,
  • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
  • the safe use of supplies and equipment andreporting when repairs are necessary
  • keeps work area in an orderly, safe and cleancondition
  • keeps inventory in order on individual carts;replenishes supplies throughout the building, and
  • Utilizing infection control procedures
• Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursing staff as required.
• Attendsand participates in community and education programs.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

• Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• WHMISCertificate.
• FirstAid Certificate as applicable.
• Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravated by working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
• Demonstratescollaborative and team working skills.
• Abilityto read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and writteninstructions.
• Allsuccessful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Checkapplicable to Provincial guidelines.
• Must be in good health, physically able to performrepetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required to perform theduties of the position.
