About the Role
The Night Houseman reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and isresponsible for the night janitorial and security duties at the community. This role maintains theestablished standards for sanitation, cleanness, and safe work environment for all personsserved.
Responsibilities
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professionalrelationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
- Responsible for the general security of the buildings and residents including residentemergency call system;
- Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building, offices,washrooms and elevators which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaningappliances; washing and buffing floors, walls, windows and doors; removingcurtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal; wateringplants
- Clean exterior hard surfaces by hosing off brick areas outside main doors nightly. Waterplanter boxes and tree and set‑out and take in soaker hoses in scheduled areas. Emptyexterior ashtray.
- Supports other departments as needed with clean up after events.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
- - accident prevention,
- - knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
- - the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs arenecessary,
- - keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition,
- - keeps inventory in order on individual carts; replenishes supplies throughout thebuilding, and
- - Utilizing infection control procedures
- Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursingstaff as required.
- Attends and participates in community and education programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must be available to work overnight shifts.
- WHMIS Certificate.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravatedby working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
- Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and writteninstructions.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Checkapplicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work withcleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
