Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Housekeeper – Casual to join our community team in Burnaby. You will perform cleaning duties across resident suites and common areas, ensuring sanitation and safety standards are met and upheld.

The role emphasizes collaboration with nursing staff, adherence to infection control procedures, and reliability in schedule, with an opportunity to contribute to a respectful, dignified living environment for residents.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • WHMIS certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate/CPR as applicable.
  • Must be free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions aggravated by cleaners and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Carry out routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building and suites: dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning appliances, washing floors, walls, windows and doors, changing beds, removing curtains for cleaning and re-hanging it.
  • Maintain a safe environment for residents, family and staff through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, safe use of supplies and equipment, reporting repairs.
  • Keep work area orderly, safe and clean and inventory on carts, replenish supplies, and utilize infection control procedures.
  • Report significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour to nursing staff and attend community and education programs.

About the Role

The Housekeeper reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and performs all aspects of cleaning duties in the community to maintain the established standards for sanitation, cleanliness, and safe work environment for all persons served.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
  • Carries out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building and suites which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaning appliances; washing floors, walls, windows and doors; changing and making beds, removing curtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal; terminal cleaning of suites.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
    • accident prevention,
    • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
    • the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary
    • keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean condition
    • keeps inventory in order on individual carts; replenishes supplies throughout the building, and
    • Utilizing infection control procedures
  • Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursing staff as required.
  • Attends and participates in community and education programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate/CPR as applicable.
  • Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravated by working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
