Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence in Halifax seeks a developer to support electronic publishing for an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM). You will participate in developing, implementing, and supporting existing applications, with mentorship and training provided.

You will design, code, test and document applications; develop SGML/XML publications; manage IETM files; and help users install and use the software. A background in computer studies with programming is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience in system analysis and software development.
• Knowledge of SGML/XML/HTML and related web technologies.
• Proficiency in SQL and database concepts (MS Access).
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide maintenance, troubleshooting and development of databases and related programs under supervision.
• Assist in designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting applications.
• Develop electronic files and publications in SGML/XML format for IETMs.
• Maintain electronic files for interactive electronic manuals (IETM).
• Assist publications staff in development of electronic publications.
• Install and customize software for new and current users.
• Provide orientation and training to end users for modified and new systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Position Overview

To support electronic publishing activities related to an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM). Participate in the development, implementation, and support of existing applications.

What You Will Do

• With direct supervision under a mentorship program, provide maintenance, trouble-shooting and development of databases and related programs.
• Assist in the designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting of applications.
• Responsible for the development of electronic files and the generation of publications in SGML/XML format.
• Maintain electronic files for an Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM).
• Assist technical publications staff in the development of electronic publications.
• Install and customize software for new and current users.
• Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
• Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

What You Will Bring

• Education: Post secondary education in computer studies with a concentration in computer programming.
• Previous experience in an electronic publishing environment would be an asset.
• Knowledge of Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML), SQL, Microsoft Access, and Java. Web Development skills (XML, JavaScript, DHTML).
• Experience in System Analysis.
• Experience in Technical Standards (Mil Std or S1000D) would be an asset.
• Good written and oral communications skills, able to work independently.
