Job description

We are seeking a highly accomplished Infrastructure Architect V for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier infrastructure architecture, cloud engineering, and technology strategy capacity, specializing in designing, developing, and governing resilient, scalable, and secure options to meet core business and technology strategies.

As an Infrastructure Architect V, you will bridge the gap between complex application development teams, information security standards, and hybrid cloud delivery frameworks. Operating within a hybrid work model in Toronto, you will lead the architecture design across both on-premises infrastructure and mixed public/hybrid cloud environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. This position demands a technical authority with extensive experience across operating systems, enterprise databases, storage architectures, networking, and security protocols who can establish robust governance frameworks, evaluate solution trade-offs, and ratify end-to-end architectural designs.

Location: Toronto, ON

Assignment Type: Hybrid (2 days per week onsite)

Contract Duration: 6-month contract (with potential for extension)

Advantages
  • High-Impact Enterprise Architecture: Lead high-visibility infrastructure architecture frameworks for a premier enterprise financial organization.
  • Hybrid & Cloud-Native Scope: Design multi-tier architectures across on-premises infrastructure, pure public cloud, and mixed Azure hybrid environments.
  • Comprehensive Technology Breadth: Direct solutions spanning Linux/Windows, middleware, enterprise databases, SAN/NAS storage, advanced networking, and security protocols.
  • Strategic Governance Leadership: Ratify solution security designs, guide technology decision-making, and build consensus across cross-functional business units.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain comprehensive architecture frameworks, strategies, policies, guiding principles, and enterprise standards.
  • Architect resilient, scalable, and cost-effective solutions spanning on-premises systems, public cloud, and hybrid cloud topologies (primarily Microsoft Azure).
  • Evaluate security standards, conduct technical risk assessments, and collaborate with security partners to ratify solution designs and mitigate potential vulnerabilities.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve detailed solution architectures and technical designs to ensure strict compliance with enterprise standards and architectural patterns.
  • Collaborate with application engineering and infrastructure teams to evaluate business requirements and recommend optimal architecture options.
  • Construct Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM) to ensure complete alignment from initial business requirements through to solution delivery.
  • Evaluate middleware, database, network, and storage components—including Linux, Windows, JBoss, Node.js, Spring Boot, Oracle RAC, MS SQL, Mongo, Cassandra, SAN/NAS, and CDN platforms.
  • Guide project plans, estimate technology costs, manage architectural deliverables, communicate progress, and elevate critical risks promptly.
  • Conduct pre- and post-implementation reviews to validate solution performance, identify architectural gaps, and establish patterns for future deployments.
  • Build consensus and facilitate decision-making across multidisciplinary teams to ensure IT strategies align with long-term technology roadmaps.
Qualifications
  • Architecture Tenure: Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in enterprise infrastructure architecture, solution design, and systems engineering.
  • Hybrid & Azure Cloud Mastery: Proven experience designing on-premises, public, and mixed hybrid cloud solutions, with strong architectural expertise in Microsoft Azure.
  • Operating Systems & Application Stacks: Extensive experience with Linux and Windows server environments, alongside modern application stacks (JBoss, Node.js, Spring Boot).
  • Enterprise Database Architectures: Technical proficiency across relational and NoSQL database platforms, including Oracle RAC, OCaC, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
  • Storage & Networking Concepts: Deep knowledge of enterprise storage architectures (SAN, DAS, NAS) and advanced networking technologies (DNS, Load Balancing, Firewalls, CDN).
  • Information Security: Strong understanding of security standards, risk analysis frameworks, identity services, and threat mitigation.
  • Education: Relevant post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred Technical Assets
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Understanding of automated deployment pipelines using Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, or similar tools.
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent cloud certifications are considered a strong asset.
Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
  • Stakeholder Facilitation: Exceptional leadership, consensus-building, and communication skills to engage business and technical teams effectively.
