Job summary

BURNCO Rock Products Ltd is seeking an IT Infrastructure Student for a 4-month term, based at our Calgary head office. You will work with the Server & Network Team in enterprise IT infrastructure, Windows and Microsoft technologies, and IT operations.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in IT, CS, or IS, with a strong desire to learn, good analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• Willingness to learn in a large enterprise IT environment
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Assist Server & Network Team with day-to-day IT activities
• Help maintain and organize technical information and documentation
• Assist with basic system and network checks and monitoring
• Support technology inventory and information gathering
• Help review and improve existing processes and documentation
• Assist with Windows Server patches and updates implementations
• Learn how enterprise servers, networks, applications and users interact
• Identify opportunities to improve routine tasks and documentation
• Complete a defined project during the internship
• Collaborate with IT teams across Server, Network, Security, Service Desk

Are you currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field? Are you passionate about technology and IT infrastructure and looking to gain practical experience in a large enterprise environment? We are hiring an IT Infrastructure Student for a 4-month work term commencing May 2027, based out of our Calgary head office. If you're a motivated self-starter with an eagerness to learn, ask questions, and solve problems, we want to hear from you!

You will work alongside experienced IT professionals, learn how enterprise technology environments are managed, and contribute to a variety of team activities and improvement initiatives. During the internship, you will gain exposure to enterprise IT infrastructure, Windows and Microsoft technologies, server and cloud environments, IT monitoring and system health, backup and recovery, networking and connectivity, IT service management, technical documentation, troubleshooting, automation, and process improvement.

What You Will Be Doing

• Assist the Server & Network Team with day-to-day IT activities and assigned tasks
• Help maintain and organize technical information and documentation
• Assist with basic system and network checks, monitoring, and validation activities
• Support technology inventory and information gathering
• Help review and improve existing processes and documentation
• Assist with the implementation and validation of Windows Server patches and updates
• Learn how enterprise servers, networks, applications, and users work together
• Learn about enterprise technologies, including servers, cloud services, backups, networking, cybersecurity, and Microsoft technologies
• Identify opportunities to make routine tasks easier, more efficient, or better documented
• Complete a defined project or improvement initiative during the internship
• Work collaboratively with members of the Server, Network, Security, Service Desk, and other IT teams

What We Would Like From You

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
• Strong interest in technology and willingness to learn
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, while knowing when to ask for assistance
• Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
• Previous IT experience, technical coursework, or personal technology projects are considered an asset but are not required

Location and other key details

• This is a 4-month temporary position commencing May 2027, based out of our Calgary head office: 5055 11th St NE, Calgary, Alberta
• The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
